Having a baby changes your life forever. Suddenly, leaving the house takes some serious planning and if you are a first-time parent, you quickly learn that you have to expect the unexpected and plan ahead for that as well!

A quick trip to the grocery store can turn into a whole morning away from home or a cup of coffee at a neighbor’s house may turn into an unexpected dinner. Sometimes you have to leave the house in a hurry to tick off an urgent errand that you’ve forgotten about (we blame baby-brain!) and as much as you try to plan around your newborn’s schedule, life just happens.

A Bit About the Boxum 3 in 1 Portable Bassinet Diaper Change Station

Boxum 3 in 1 Portable Bassinet Diaper Change Station

This is why we recommend the Boxum 3 in 1 Portable Bassinet Diaper Change station. It is an excellent product for parents that are on the move but who still try to implement some type of routine for their newborn.

In fact, it is an excellent product for any parent because let’s face it; you have to leave the house sometime or another, whether it is to go to the grocery store, pediatrician, or to grandma’s house.

The diaper bag can be used as a diaper changing station for your baby, transforms into a bassinet if your little one needs to take a nap, and also acts as a diaper bag for a few essential items to take along with you.

We “divided” the bag into its three different sections and reviewed them each separately for your convenience. Depending on what you are looking for, you will immediately know whether this bag is going to be suitable or not.

The Bassinet section

Size and dimensions:

The Boxum 3 in 1 Portable Bassinet Diaper Change Station, when transformed into a bassinet or changing station, measure 30 x 15.5 x 7.5 inches, providing able space for your baby to take a nap in. According to the manufacturer, the baby bassinet can be used from newborn up to 12 months old, however, if you have a tall or big baby, the bag will probably last you up until 7 – 8 months.

The weight limit for carrying your baby in the bassinet is approximately 22 pounds. Again, more in the proximity of 7 – 8 months, depending on the size of your baby, but this is still a fair amount of time to get good use from this product.

Also, keep in mind that you can still use the diaper changing section long after that seeing that the bottom panel folds down. Your baby could probably even still sleep in it with the bottom section folded down as the side panels will still provide protection.

The bassinet section folds in half when closing the bag, making the bag easy to carry. Considering that this bag can be utilized for three different needs, it is fairly compact but having said that, always keep in mind that it transforms into a full bassinet so yes, it is large in size.

Mattress

The bassinet section comes with a thick mattress and fitted sheet, providing a comfortable space for your newborn to nap in. The mattress wipes clean without any real effort and the fitted sheet is removable and machine washable. Unfortunately, the bag only comes with one fitted sheet and it is not possible to buy additional fitted sheets on its own.

It would have been nice to have one or two extra fitted sheets for when you are out and about and your baby has a spill. It’s not the end of the world though. You could get someone to make you a fitted sheet or make one yourself.

There’s also the option of replacing the fitted sheet with a receiving blanket but it might not fit that well and could, worst-case scenario, cause suffocation. If it is really an issue, we suggest you contact the manufacturers and ask whether they could provide you with one or two extra sheets.

Side panels

The side panels when using the Boxum 3 in 1 Portable Bassinet Diaper Change Station as a basinet, provide protection for your baby and are nice and sturdy. It does wear out with some time unfortunately and keep in mind that once your baby can sit up on its own, the side panels won’t do much to keep them inside the bassinet.

It’s still a nice feature to have when changing your baby as it provides some form of safety when they start to get all wiggly. When set up, the bassinet can also double as a little playpen for your bay.

Bonus points:

The Boxum 3 in 1 Portable Bassinet Diaper Change Station bag earned bonus points in our books because you don’t have to remove any of the items in the diaper section before transforming it into a bassinet. You simply zip open the bassinet section and violá, your baby is ready to take a nap! The items are safely secured in the diaper bag section and zipped closed in case your little one is tempted to explore.

The diaper changing section:

Size and dimensions:

The diaper changing section has pretty much all the same features and benefits as the bassinet section; however, the bottom section folds back, giving you some extra leg room if your baby is very tall. For this very reason, the changing station can be used long after you’ve stopped using the bag as a bassinet for your baby.

The side panels are very practical to use when changing your baby, especially when they grow older and start to roll over on their own. The mattress can be wiped clean effortlessly and as we’ve mentioned, you don’t have to remove any items from the bag in order to use it.

Sanitary sanity:

What makes the diaper changing section of this bag a real life-safer, is that it provides a clean, sanitary place for you to change your little one. If you’ve ever had to change your baby in a public restroom, you will know exactly what we’re referring to in this section.

These places can often look and feel dirty, enough so to raise the hair at the back of your neck and as parent, you can’t help but be concerned about germs lurking around in these restrooms, especially seeing that your baby still has a very vulnerable immune system.

The changing station will hopefully provide a safe and sanitary place for you to change your baby in without having to whip out tens and thousands of sanitary ointments to wipe down the counter first.

Convenience

The reality is that your friends and family don’t always have children/changing tables in their homes. The Boxum 3 in 1 Portable Bassinet Diaper Change Station provides you with a safe, clean space to change your baby when visiting friends or family. You can even use it to change your baby’s diaper in the back of the car when you are on the road!

The Diaper bag section

Storage and size

The diaper section of the Boxum 3 in 1 Portable Bassinet Diaper Change Station has several pockets in which you can store diapers, wipes, cream,s and bottles. One of the bags also contains a baby bottle cooler to keep milk warm/cool when you are out and about.

To be honest, the diaper section space is limited and the type of pockets on the bag makes it even more difficult to utilize for an array of different items. Don’t expect to pack the same amount of items you would normally fit into a normal diaper bag but you’ll probably be able to fit all supplies required for one day, perhaps two.

That being said, keep in mind what you gain in return for giving up a little space – A full bassinet and diaper changing station that is compact and easy to carry.

Accessories:

The bag comes with a carry strap that makes traveling a breeze. There’s no handle though but give its size, it’s probably easier just to carry on the shoulder. This strap can easily be detached when the baby is sleeping to avoid choking.

Keeping it clean:

Unfortunately, the bag cannot be washed. The bassinet section is waterproof on the inside and can be wiped clean by using a wet cloth. The outer section of the bag is water-resistant but not waterproof. The only part of the bag that can be washed is the fitted sheet that comes with the bassinet. Washing is sure to ruin the bag and will cause the panels to become floppy.

The Boxum 3 in 1 Portable Bassinet Diaper Change Station is an excellent buy if you need to travel for short periods at a time. It provides a safe place for your baby to nap in and he or she can be carried inside the bassinet when you are on the move.

It is also great to use when changing diapers as it provides a clean, safe and hygienic space unlike most public bathrooms and you can pack most of the essential items you need for a day or two inside the bag.

The zippers also ensure that the items are kept safe and secure and considering the price tag, this baby bag comes highly recommended!
