Latest posts by Keith Lindner (see all)

From baby formulas to diapers, every parent wants to choose the best for their child. Especially when it comes to feeding them, now, we’d all like to stick to only homemade, all-natural, organic food, but that’s not always possible. Baby food delivery services can be a lifesaver for busy parents. And while there are a number of baby food delivery services available today, two of the most popular ones are Tiny Organics vs Little Spoon.

If you’ve been frustrated trying to decide the winner of the Tiny Organics vs Little Spoon debate, I can imagine your pain. Sometimes, it feels easier to just pick one. But there are so many factors we need to consider when choosing baby food.

So, if you were already looking at these products and comparing their features, then I’m here to help you. These baby food products and services can differ vastly and have some similarities as well. From my experience using both the products, I’ve got a fair understanding of both.

Let’s jump right in and look at the differences between these baby food delivery services.

Main Differences between Tiny Organics vs Little Spoon

The main differences between Tiny Organics vs Little Spoon are:

  • Tiny Organics is created for babies 6 months old and above, whereas Little Spoon caters to a larger age group.
  • Tiny Organics does not add any salts or sugars to their products, whereas Little Spoon does.
  • Little Spoon offers more meal types, whereas Tiny Organics offers only one meal type.

Tiny Organics: In-depth Review

Tiny Organics vs Little Spoon

Tiny Organics makes and delivers textured finger food meals for babies 8 months and above. Their finger food meals are especially created to help parents encourage baby-led weaning (BLW).

BLW is an approach that helps wean babies off spoon-feed meals and encourages them to feed themselves. And since babies can’t spoon-feed themselves, BLW involves finger foods to make it easier for babies to feed themselves.

Tiny Organics promotes BLW by making food that makes it easier to implement it. But that does not mean Tiny Organics products can’t be used by parents who don’t wish to start BLW yet. Their meals are soft and mushy enough to help accommodate different feeding and parenting styles.

That’s not all. All the meals from Tiny Organics are 100% organic, plant-based, GMO-free, and come frozen to preserve their freshness. Tiny Organics meals come frozen, so you need to thaw and heat them before serving.

Ingredients

All Tiny Organics meals are created by the company’s in-house neonatal nutritionists, pediatric experts, and executive chefs. Tiny Organics ensures their meals consist of a variety of foods and flavors to help introduce your toddler to all food groups. This not only helps nurture healthy eating habits in kids but also provides them with more nutrients.

Tiny Organics works with the Tufts School of Nutrition & Policy to develop their meals and include ingredients that support children’s developmental stages. Their meals do not contain any sugars or salts and instead use natural spices and herbs to make their food taste good for toddlers. The sweet and salty flavors are all from the fruits, vegetables, and grains added to these meals.

Worried about allergic reactions? Tiny Organics’ menu includes none of the Big-8 allergens — milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans. So that’s all your worries alleviated. You can also check the container label for all the ingredient information. While they don’t include allergens in ingredients, their manufacturing takes place in a facility that does, which may be a concern.

Storage

All Tiny Organics meal boxes need to be frozen as soon as you receive them. Take them out only when you wish to consume them.

The best by date is given at the bottom of every meal box in the following format:

MMDDYYX (the “X” refers to the internal batch number)

Serving

As the meals are kept frozen, you will need to heat the meal using a microwave or a stovetop before serving it. Detailed heating instructions can be found on their website.

Make sure that the temperature is not too hot, or it may burn your child’s hand.

Meal Plans

The Tiny Organics subscription process involves answering a few questions about yourself and your child and choosing a meal plan and recipes.

The boxes are delivered every 1, 2, or 4 weeks in 12 or 24 meal packages. You can plan the meal delivery details during the plan selection stage and make changes later as well.

Packaging and Prices

Products come packaged in a fully recyclable outer box and an inner biodegradable green insulation foam. The products are all transported in temperature-controlled boxes with dry ice, keeping your food frozen and fresh until it reaches you.

They follow environment-friendly packaging practices and deliver fresh food. This is a huge relief for us parents, considering that Tiny Organics ships to locations across the US (except for Hawaii and Alaska).

Tiny Organics meals are also affordably priced. Their subscription starts at $5, with a minimum of 12 meals per week. You can also get a starter pack for around $35.

Parents no longer have to put in hours and days into getting their toddlers to eat something unappetizing. I personally am a fan of their meals as they are so customizable. And when you have a picky eater at home, this is a blessing!

Tiny Organics meals are also an easily instant meal for toddlers without the guilt of feeding them unhealthy food. You’ll also find reviews of parents trying the baby meals for themselves and loving them. That’s a sure way of knowing the food is as tasty as Tiny Organics says!

Little Spoon: In-Depth Review

little spoon

Little Spoon is a baby meal delivery service with a more diverse product list. With more than 100 ingredients on their menu and all of them organic, they offer diverse foods such as meals, purees, smoothies, finger food, vitamins, and remedies.

What I found interesting about the Little Spoon menu is that most of their products are created using cold pressing techniques. Cold pressing is a method of extracting juices from fruits and vegetables by application of pressure without using heat or oxygen, thus helping keep the nutrients intact.

Ingredients

While Little Spoon claims to have left all the Big-8 allergens out of most of its menu, they do have products with allergens labeled as such. You can also find a list of allergen-containing products on their website when customizing your plan.

I liked their detailed labeling of products by specifying when they contain allergens, such as dairy and egg whites and those without. There are also vegan, vegetarian, and BLW options included on their menu.

1. Smoothies

The smoothies from Little Spoon are prepared from fruits and vegetables. I found them to be a great way to feed babies on the go and also wean them off spoon-fed food.

The smoothies are fresh, cold-pressed, 100% non-GMO, 100% organic, and OU Kosher certified. A big worry for me is additives and flavoring in my child’s food. However, Little Spoon smoothies contain no artificial sugars, preservatives, or additives.

2. Baby Blends

The baby blends are a plant-based product created with consultation from pediatricians, nutritionists, and chefs. They are suitable for all age groups and are designed to support the natural growth stages of children.

The baby blends are made fresh every week and shipped to your doorstep. They are also non-GMO and USDA-certified by QAI International.

3. Plates

The Little Spoon plates are made for older kids and toddlers. Their food is also free of preservatives and low on sodium. I also checked the ingredients and found that they use around 500 mg of salt, maple syrup, and cane sugar in the plate meals, which is quite a low amount.

However, I would still urge you to check the ingredients carefully to see if any of them are prohibited items for your baby. While their plates are not yet Kosher certified, their meat and eggs are antibiotic, hormone-free, and sourced from humanely raised farms.

4. Vitamins and Remedies

An additional service that Little Spoon offers is its range of vitamin and remedy mixes. Toddlers are at an age where their bodies are still developing and are fragile. I’m always a little scared when my kids show even the slightest discomfort. So, this product has been a useful addition to my cart!

Little Spoon has probiotics, daily vitamins, and natural remedies. And they maintain transparency by providing the ingredient list and related information on their website. Note that all the products aren’t appropriate for all age groups, so check the instructions carefully. Make sure you also read the serving instructions and follow them carefully.

If you need your meals to do more, try adding supplements to your kids’ diet.

Storage

Different products call for different storage practices. Little Spoon recommends storing the baby blends in a fridge when you receive them, taking them out only when ready to consume. Even when stored, the blends only have a life of 14 days. This is quite less, but since it’s fresh, I’m not complaining!

Another option is to freeze the blends when they arrive. This will extend their life span by up to three months. Just make sure you thaw the blend before consumption and consume it within 24 hours. Once opened, the baby blends have a life of 48 hours, after which you must discard them. Also, discard any blends left in the fridge 14 days after delivery.

An easy way to keep track is to check the delivery date. The plates can also be stored for up to 14 days in the fridge and three months in the freezer. However, once opened, it must be consumed within 48 hours and kept in the fridge if you’re using it for multiple servings.

For those buying the smoothies, follow these timelines for storage:

  • If stored in the freezer, consume them within the next three months.
  • If stored in the fridge, consume them within two weeks.

Out traveling for a few hours and plan to carry a smoothie for your baby’s meal? Make sure to carry an ice pack to slow the thawing.

Note that the smoothies can only be left unrefrigerated for up to 4 hours, so consume them within this timeframe.

Serving

You have multiple options for heating the plate meals or baby blends. The baby blends can be heated using a shallow bowl or a microwave. The plate meals can be heated using a microwave, skillet, oven, toaster oven, or air fryer.

You can visit their website for more detailed instructions on heating. Make sure that the food has cooled down before letting your child eat it.

Plans

For a Little Spoon meal plan, you are required to answer a few questions. Based on the information you’ve given, the company will customize a plan for your child. You’re also free to customize meals and recipes as you like.

Little Spoon has three plans for parents to choose from — baby blends plan, plates plan, and smoothies plan. The baby blends plan is appropriate for every age group and includes a menu of purees only. The puree menu consists of over 100 ingredients that are non-GMO and organic.

The plates are for picky kids or toddlers who are a little old and can move on to meals. The meals need some prep that takes only a few seconds. Little Spoon smoothies are suitable for all age groups. They are nutritious, cold-pressed, and made from organic ingredients.

If you wish to customize your plan further, Little Spoon allows you to do that too.

Packaging and Prices

The packaging is 100% curbside recyclable. All products used for packaging are free of:

  • Harmful toxins
  • BPA
  • Phthalates

The container and plate are made from #1 PET plastic, and the spoon and lids come from #5 PP plastic. Little Spoon meals are shipped as fresh as they are made. Shipping costs and time will differ based on your location and products.

The blends and plates are shipped to locations all across the US (except Alaska and Hawaii). They are, therefore, packed in an insulation box with gel ice or dry ice. At the time of delivery, the packages will be cold or frozen. Since Little Spoon offers a wide variety of products, the prices also vary. The starting price is $2.74 for baby food and $4.99 for the plates.

Little Spoon also offers a military discount and another discount for families with twins or triplets. You should also take their shipping charges into account when ordering from Little Spoon. It may make your purchase a bit pricier.

Overall, however, I found their pricing in the affordable range.

Little Spoon Reviews

Most parents love Little Spoon’s range of flavors that make mealtime a fun time for kids. I loved how fresh their meals, smoothies, as well as blends, are. And don’t forget, the meals are delivered fresh to the doorstep. An important factor for me is the transparency a company has about its processes, sources, and ingredients. And Little Spoon delivers on this front too!

Tiny Organics vs. Little Spoon: Alternatives

Yumble

yumble

Yumble serves up nutritionist-approved meals for kids between the ages of 12 months and 12 years. They have a rotating menu that switches up every 6-8 weeks. Like Little Spoon, Yumble also labels their allergen-containing meals.

While their pricing is premium, they offer free shipping. A major concern with Yumble though is that they only ship to the east coast and parts of the Midwest.

Nurture Life

nurture life

Nurture Life delivers baby meals and offers meal plans for babies, toddlers, and kids that are weaning off spoon-fed meals.

What I loved, and you will too, about their service is that their meals are never frozen. They are delivered fresh upon order, straight to your doorstep. And compared to the other delivery plans I’ve discussed in this article; this one is quite affordable.

You can also check out this comprehensive comparison of Yumble vs. Nurture Life to know more.

Yumi

Tiny Organics vs Little Spoon

Another brand that provides meal delivery plans for babies and toddlers, Yumi’s products are made fresh every week and shipped fresh as well. Unlike most brands, Yumi leaves out a total of 9 major allergens — milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat, soybeans, and sesame.

The products are similar to Tiny Organics and Little Spoon in their key features such as:

  • 100% organic
  • Non-GMO
  • Gluten-free
  • Kosher
  • Vegan
  • Plant-Based
  • Dairy-free

One drawback? They’re a little more expensive.

However, there’s more to Yumi than what I can list here. Check out our full Yumi review and a comparison of Little Spoon vs. Yumi too!

Question: How Long Do Tiny Organics Meals Stay Fresh For?

My Verdict: Tiny Organics vs Little Spoon — Which One is Best for You?

Both Tiny Organics and Little Spoon offer similar baby meal delivery services at a glance. But look closer, and you’re sure to find some differences. For me, the Little Spoon option provides a lot more variety in products and flavors, but Tiny Organics isn’t far behind either. If I consider the kids’ vote, both are great in terms of their flavors.

What I wasn’t comfortable with was the additional salt and sugars in the Little Spoon products. It may not be a problem for all parents. But if you’re not comfortable introducing sodium and sugars to your baby’s diet at such a young age, Tiny Organics might be a better option for you.

Overall, Tiny Organics was the winner for me. But if your baby is below 6 months of age, opting for Little Spoon is not bad either! And you won’t be spending anything extra by choosing either service. Parenting is a difficult task, and you need all the help you can get. I hope this article helps you choose a meal plan that makes your and your child’s life easier and healthier.
