Most new parents dread bath time at first – It is normal! You have been entrusted with the most beautiful little boy or girl you have ever seen and if you are anything like me, it is likely that you are so terrified that he or she will slip through your fingers or that you will accidentally hurt them, that you have had nightmares about bath time long before they were even born!
I have to confess that I actually had my mother bath our firstborn the first few times while I simply stood there and observed! Fortunately, we have so many options available when it comes to baby bathtubs today, all designed to try and make bathing as safe and effortless as possible.
Before we dive right into our list of the top 10 baby tubs on the market, we’ve compiled a few handy tips that might make bathing your newborn a little less stressful!
The most important thing is to NEVER leave your baby unattended, not even for a second. Everything else in this world can wait for when you have your baby’s life in your hands.
Get everything you may need ready before undressing your little one. That includes running (and testing) the bathwater, laying out a new set of clothes and a clean diaper, getting all the soaps, creams, cotton wool etc. and taking out a towel.
Ensure that everything you need is within arm’s reach when setting up.
Always test bathwater before placing your baby in the tub. You can buy a thermometer or simply test the water by dipping your elbow in. If you choose to make use of a thermometer, it is always a good idea to check with your elbow anyway in case the thermometer gives an inaccurate reading.
When done bathing, always empty the tub completely. One inch of water is all it takes for a baby to drown.
Try to avoid running water while your baby is inside the bath. There could be a sudden change in temperature that could cause severe burns on your baby’s delicate skin.
Be confident in your abilities and if you are unsure about anything, don’t be afraid to ask someone for help.
So without further ado, here follows our list of top 10 Baby baths that promises to provide you and your little munchkin with hours of fun!
1. Angelcare Baby Bath Support
Angelcare never seems to disappoint when it comes to safety for your little one. We love this baby bath with its soft mesh material that promises to provide a comfortable bath from start to finish. We also applaud the multiple drain holes that prevent water from dwelling up underneath baby while bathing.
The Angelcare Baby Bath Support can fit into most sinks larger than 22 x 13.5 x 8.8 inches as well as a bathtub. The baby bath also has a slight incline with raised sides to keep your little one safe and snug during bath time. The bottom lip of the bath is designed in such a way that it won’t cause your baby any discomfort.
The bath contains a hook for easy storage and thanks to the drain holes, this bath is very easy to keep clean. The design also allows for quick drying and the material is mildew-resistant. Although we do not recommend using a product for anything else than its original design, several moms have admitted to using the bath outside the bathroom as well!
The Agirlvct Baby Bath Seat Support Net is a great option if you already own a bathtub but are looking to get your new baby through bath time in the first few months. The support net features adjustable straps that will fit most tubs and contains anti-skid snaps to safely secure the net.
The net is manufactured using double mesh and claims to be from eco-friendly materials. We love that this net is portable, easy to dry and that it contains double support at the top, preventing water from running into your little one’s ears. The net measures in at 13.9 x 13 x 2.2 inches. On Amazon, the Agirlvct Baby Bath Seat Support Net is $9.89. Check out the latest price!
3. Fisher-Price Calming Waters Vibration Bathing Tub
If you have a fussy baby then look no further than the Calming Waters Vibration bathtub from Fisher-Price. The tub features soothing vibrations that is bound to calm any crying baby during bath time.
The sling, designed for baby’s first few months, is made from soft material and contains a padded headrest for ultra-comfort and protection. Once the baby is old enough, the sling can be removed, allowing the baby to lay at a gentle incline thanks to the baby stopper insert that accompanies the tub. When your little one can sit without assistance, simply remove the baby stopper and have him or her splash around in the tub.
The bath will fit most single and double sinks and if you choose to make use of the vibration feature, you will need a 1 x C battery. The bathtub measures 31 x 18 x 9 inches and has a hook for drying and storage purposes. The bath also features a drain plug at the bottom for convenience. The only negative we could find is that in newborn mode, your little one’s body is not submerged but then again, maybe it is not such a bad thing with regards to safety. We also would have preferred non-slip pads at the bottom of the bath.
If it is value for money that you are looking for, look no further than the multi-function Summer Infant Comfort Height Bath Tub! The booster platform allows for a raised bath which is gentle on your back and can later be converted into a stepstool or kneeler.
The bathtub contains a newborn support feature with sizable padded head support for your new baby to ensure that their head is protected. The newborn insert can also be used in the sink individually while the support feature contains non-slip grippers that offer new moms peace of mind.
The tub locks onto the raised platform to prevent them from separating while you bath your baby. The only thing that wasn’t perhaps thought out well, is that while the tub contains a drain plug, the connecting raised platform doesn’t, meaning that you need to remove the tub from the platform in order to drain the tub.
The tub measures in at 29 x 9.5 x 17.5 inches and is suitable for toddlers up to two years old.
5. Blooming Bath Lotus – Baby Bath
We adore the Blooming Bath Lotus for its originality and cuteness factor. The Blooming Bath Lotus is composed out of four petals that create a soft environment should you choose to bath your little one in the sink – a great alternative to conventional baby baths.
The Crystal Minky fabric is soft enough to create a safe environment with sufficient head support for babies aged 0 – 6 months and can be folded for easy storage. Traveling is also a breeze with this creation. The center is 8 inches in diameter while the petals measure 33 inches, tip to tip.
Once the baby is done bathing, simply wring out any excess water and throw the Blooming Bath Lotus in the dryer for approximately 15 minutes on a delicate cycle. The flower also contains a convenient hangtag at the back for easy drying and storage. If you don’t have a dryer though, you might struggle to dry this cute little pillow.
The Summer Infant Warming Waterfall Bath Tub takes bathing to a whole new level with their soothing waterfall feature, located at the top of the bath. The waterfall allows the bathwater to circulate, creating a small stream of warm water that runs down baby’s back. We also like the oversized washcloth that is included to place over baby, preventing your little munchkin from getting cold during bathtime.
The bathtub also contains a rinse cup for easy pouring and on the top, you will find a “parent assist tray” where you can keep all bathing essentials within arm’s reach.
Once the baby is old enough, the newborn support can be removed and the baby can splash in the bath up to the age of two years old. The bath measures 34 x 18 x 9.8 inches and requires 2 x C batteries if you wish to use the waterfall feature. The bath also contains a drain plug for easy drainage. On Amazon, the Summer Infant Warming Waterfall Bath Tub is $39.92. Check out the latest price!
7. Fisher-Price 4-in-1 Sling ‘n Seat Tub
The Fisher-Price 4-in-1 Sling ‘n Seat Tub is the perfect choice if you are looking for a bath that will grow with your baby. As the name suggests, the bath offers four different stages in which you can utilize the tub:
Stage 1: Make use of the soft, mesh newborn sling during the first few months. The sling dries quickly and can be washed.
Stage 2: Remove the sling and add the baby-stopper insert, manufactured from soft foam.
Stage 3: Convert baby-stopper into Sit-Me-Up support once your little one starts to sit up. Simply turn the baby-stopper around.
Stage 4: Remove Sit-Me-Up support and baby has the whole bath to splash in.
The Fisher-Price 4-in-1 Sling ‘n Seat Tub also contains a “Scooper-duper whale” for your baby to play with as well as a Squeezy bottle to help rinse your little one. The bath has a convenient hook at the back for easy storage in the shower or behind a door and also features a built-in drain plug.
8. Stokke Flexi Bath Newborn Support for Foldable Baby Bath Tub
The Stokke Flexi Bath Newborn Support for Foldable Baby Bath Tub is an insert designed to mimic the support of a steady arm and fits perfectly into a Stokke Bath Tub. Seeing that this little gadget is sold separately, many mothers prefer to buy the Newborn Support without the bath, however, be aware that it is likely to move around when not used in conjunction with the Stokke Bath.
The newborn support allows baby to lie at a natural angle while being bathed. Some moms suggested that a little more “traction” is required during the newborn stage but easily solved this problem themselves with a little initiative by adding non-slip stickers or something as simple as a washcloth. Also be aware that water builds up at the bottom of the insert – great for older babies but something to look out for in the early stages.
The insert can be used individually in a sink or inserted into the baby bathtub. It features a water catch tray that allows for water to gently stream down baby’s neck and back if placed under running water. The drain holes on the insert prevent water from welling up – just remember to remove the drain plug in the tub as well. While we love this neat little feature, keep in mind that it is possible for the temperature of running water to suddenly change as mentioned in our tips for safely bathing your newborn.
To switch to the Infant bath that has a medium incline, simply turn the newborn insert the other way around in the baby bathtub. The medium incline will keep baby warm during bath time. Once your little one is old enough, remove the insert and place baby in the one side of the bath that contains support for your baby to sit up. The other side of the tub allows your little one to sit up straight when they are able to do so.
The real attraction, however, is that these baths can be turned into storage bins for toys and are available in five different animals, each with stackable lids. No more wondering what to do with bathtubs once your baby outgrows them!
We hope you found the perfect bath for you and your little one and remember the most important thing is to be prepared and to stay calm when it comes to bath time. Make bath time fun time and see this time as special quality time with your little one with nothing to distract you! Happy splashing!
